The first of this type of driving tour began in Ohio when a woman painted a quilt square on her barn to honor her mother's passion for quilts. That square was the spark that has now blazed trails through Ohio, Tennessee, West Virginia, Iowa and Kentucky.

The Western Kentucky Quilt Line Trail is an effort by the Pennyrile Resource, Conservation & Development Council, Inc. that encompasses nine counties in Western Kentucky. The area is known for its quilts especially the Amish quilts found in Crittenden County.
